One of the things that brought the most joy to Klaus' heart was seeing a young athlete discover his physical potential and find the mental toughness and courage to pull it out of himself.  When Klaus began his six year battle with brain cancer, his own mental toughness and ability to push his body to its limits helped him win his fight with "the Cadillac of tumors," Glioblastoma Multiforme, and break the records for survivors.  While he continued to live and train, he learned to appreciate athletes who live with physical challenges of all kinds.  Before Klaus died , he made sure his brain would be donate to UCLA's neuro-oncology program so that scientists could learn more about his disease and help other people.  He also established a scholarship at Long Beach Wilson High School, where he led his schwimmers to 25 consecutive Moore League Finals.
It is the Klaus Barth Foundation's desire to continue Klaus' desire to help those battling cancer and support athletes who have physical challenges they must push past in order to meet thier competitive goals.  At Klaus' wish, we have established this non profit organization, dedicated to provide funding for research and support so that Klaus can still continue to teach and inspire.
